Hand and Wrist Work Injuries

Work injuries represent a broad spectrum of disorders including both acute injuries (fractures, lacerations), and chronic conditions (carpal tunnel, tendonitis). In some cases, work activities may worsen a pre-existing condition. If you feel you’ve been injured at work, contact your HR supervisor as you may qualify for treatment of your injury under Workman’s Compensation Insurance. It is usually much easier to get treatment for work injuries covered under Workman’s Compensation Insurance if you file your claim with your employer in advance of seeking medical attention. Obviously, this is not always possible for injuries requiring urgent or emergent medical attention.

Power tools are a common mechanism of work related hand and wrist injury.

HOW DO YOU SEEK CARE FOR A WORK INJURY?

If the injury requires urgent or emergent care, then seek immediate medical attention at the closest emergency department or call 911. Check with your supervisor or HR for any specific protocols that may apply to your particular job or employer in advance, or as soon as reasonably possible after an emergent injury.

If you feel you’ve been injured at work, contact your supervisor as soon as possible. You may qualify for treatment of your injury under Workman’s Compensation Insurance.
